Blood Oranges

While blood oranges aka moro oranges are in season (mid January through mid April), Jeremy used the delicious flavors and color to add to his already tasty blackened tilapia.  He used fennel and blood oranges to make slaw.
Once you try the intense blood orange flavor you may even get a hint of fresh raspberry flavor.
In addition to being an artist in the kitchen, Jeremy uses his artistic side when plating his dinners.
Jeremy's Blackened Tilapia with Fennel and Blood Orange Slaw.

Juicy Fact
All oranges contain carotene — that's what makes them orange. Moros get their red color from high concentrations of a pigment called anthocyanin, a powerful antioxidant that neutralizes the effects of free radicals. Free radicals are the agents believed to be responsible for cancer, aging and other health ailments.

Political Parties

With local and national politics gearing up for another election season, folks are getting together to support their favorite candidate.
Tonight we catered an event of this nature, the host decided on a dinner party as a way for attendees to meet the favored politician and socialize.
This successful fundraising dinner had a wide selection of hors d'oeuvres. Here’s hoping the attendees enjoyed getting to talk with the candidate and
Palette Catering's food!

*The Democratic Donkey and the Republican Elephant*
Ever wondered what the story was behind these two famous party animals?
The now-famous Democratic donkey was first associated with Democrat Andrew Jackson's 1828 presidential campaign. His opponents called him a jackass (a donkey), and Jackson decided to use the image of the strong-willed animal on his campaign posters. Later, cartoonist Thomas Nast used the Democratic donkey in newspaper cartoons and made the symbol famous.
Nast invented another famous symbol—the Republican elephant. In a cartoon that appeared in Harper's Weekly in 1874, Nast drew a donkey clothed in lion's skin, scaring away all the animals at the zoo. One of those animals, the elephant, was labeled “The Republican Vote.” That's all it took for the elephant to become associated with the Republican Party.
Democrats today say the donkey is smart and brave, while Republicans say the elephant is strong and dignified.

Pinterest and Palette

For months I've been obsessed with Pinterest.  The plethora of ideas and creativity keeps our work on catering, parenting and events fresh.  Everyone in Phoebe's class received this Valentine from her.  Easy, fun & inexpensive.

I really dig you!

Last week we worked with a client for her son's birthday party and together we came up with this party favor.  Needless to say, the kiddos love it.

Cheesedip Too

A few nights ago we received a photo text from one of our first clients.

"Palette Cheese Dip.  It's what's for dinner!"

Nothing makes us happier than happy clients!

Fat Tuesday-Chocolate!

All of the Fat Tuesday celebrating and talking has me thinking about Chocolate!
Well, let's be honest...any reason to think about Chocolate and I'm on board.
If only I still had a slice of the Chocolate Cream Pie or Dark Chocolate Cake that we made for clients recently.

Retail is BACK! Kinda........

Happy New Year!
We have been busy putting together a few new things for our NINTH year in business.  Cannot believe how fast time has flown.  As you all may know,  we have been on the lookout for a small retail space with better visibility to sell our meals.  After many months of looking we have decided to stop the search and begin offering one dinner a day (Tuesday-Friday) from our existing catering kitchen.  I have attached the menu for the remainder of January and will post February next week.  You may order as far in advance as you would like but for those of us who operate on much shorter notice, you can order anytime before 2:00 p.m. for the next day!  It's not as convenient as "walk-in" service, but still convenient for celebrations, sympathy meals, gifts to your foodie friends or "just because"!
